You care about the ingredients you put in your body, carefully considering what’s in your beauty products and what’s in your food. What about the ingredients you use to clean your home?

To live a truly green and healthy life, simply changing what you eat and drink, doing mindful exercise and practicing self care to help reduce stress can make a huge impact; but, why stop there? Your home is your haven, and it is meant to keep you and your family safe, healthy and comfortable. Unfortunately, there are certain cleaning products more than common than ever in many homes that might be damaging your family’s health.

With the onset of the pandemic, many of us may have let our biggest chemical concerns slip when it comes to cleaning our homes.. We have educated ourselves about disinfecting our high touch surfaces to kill Covid 19, but we’re concerned about the effects of our stepped up pandemic cleaning routines and the harsh chemicals we’re bringing into our homes.

We want you to know that you don’t have to resort to filling your home with toxic fumes everytime you clean the kitchen or bathroom.

You don’t want to skip the step of cleaning before you disinfect and you can use your plant powered cleaners for that step. Dirt and organic material can make some disinfectants less effective, so cleaning is necessary before disinfecting in most cases.

So what are some of the ingredients we want to steer clear of in household cleaners and why?

  1. Fragrance might be the culprit if you break out in unexplained rashes. According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), fragrance is the number one cause of cosmetic contact dermatitis and its prevalence is on the rise.  Look for products scented with pure essential oils instead of fake perfumes, like Rebel Green All Purpose Spray. If you’re super sensitive, you may want to choose “Fragrance Free”, meaning masking scents are not used in the formulation of the product. Products labeled only “Unscented”, may contain chemicals that neutralize or mask the odors of other ingredients.
  2. Synthetic dyes can cause allergic reactions in some people and skin outbreaks in others.
  3. Sulfates can cause varying levels of skin and eye irritation, which (for the people who experience it) gets worse the longer the product is in contact with the skin.
  4. Phthalates are still relatively unknown on how they effect the human body, however, phthalates have been linked to altered hormone levels and cause birth defects in rodents.
  5. Chemicals found in conventional laundry detergent emit fumes that are constantly inhaled throughout the day. Breathing in chemical fumes, even small amounts may have damaging consequences on your endocrinological and neurological health.
  6. Parabens increase the shelf life of products by preventing and reducing the growth of mold and bacteria. Studies have shown that they can mimic estrogen and interfere with the function of the human hormone system.
  7. Phosphate is a common chemical added to laundry detergent and has significantly damaged our planet over the years as it’s poisonous to fish and the natural environment.

What are some good, plant based and biodegradable alternatives?

When you use Rebel Green USDA Certified Organic Fresh Laundry Detergent or Our Certified Organic Baby Detergents, you and your family are avoiding these and other dangers. Organic laundry soap is more gentle on fabrics, healthier for our bodies, and safer for every living thing.

All Purpose Cleaner, Super Deluxe Dish Soap, Fresh and Clean Hand Soap, Sparkling Glass Cleaner, Neat and Tidy Tub and Tile Cleaner, Fresh Room and Linen Sprays and Spotless Toilet Bowl Cleaner are safe alternatives and clean just as well if not better as conventional products.

Ditching  harsh chemical cleaners  is not only better for you, your family and the planet but it will provide a sense of control, pride and calm knowing you’re making your home safe and healthy for your loved ones. Your house will smell cleaner and better than ever before with the pure essential oils blends like peppermint lemon, lavender grapefruit, pink lilac, frankincense and pine and orange blossom and chamomile.
